I ruined the quality and duration of my sleep for years by playing video games for at least two or three hours before bed, with the tv and all gaming consoles IN the bedroom. I simply had no idea that it was affecting my sleep. But then I started wondering why the quality of my sleep was so poor, and why I felt so tired all the time. I also destroyed my lower back due to the position I sat in for so many years while I played those video games. I love digital entertainment, but over the last fifteen to twenty years it has taken a very nasty toll on my health. Luckily, the quality of games these days isn't nearly what it used to be, so that's helped me curb my habit. I'm also in physical rehab for my back. Now I spend the last hour before lights out reading books on Kindle--and sometimes they're yours!

A stage is reached where parents undermine the rule of law in the home by excessive rule making. I am sure that all that you say is true but trying to get teenagers to obey these rules encourages cheating and they will be sneaking out in the middle of the night to use that phone. It is a good thing to delay getting a cellphone for the kids until they are in grade 7 or 8 and then keeping it simple with a prepaid phone like a Tracfone, but there is a limit to the control that you can impose.
